Written in 1901..over 100 years ago, but you really understand how far away we have fallen from truly good management. The performance metrics delivery and management processes depicted in the late 1800's department store will make you jealous. It is sad to do a reflection of what once was, and you wonder why we are struggling to get what managers 100 years ago had, in spite of the lack of "technology".
Anyone involved in process improvement or management information systems needs to read this book to see how you really should do it. Productivity would go through the roof if we went back to these lost arts of management.
Offers a great perspective on the organization and systemization of a business. I have an MBA, and to me, this book was a fascinating look at how data was collected and operations were effectively controlled 100+ years ago. Definitely a source of some good ideas that one can apply even today.
